Plane crash of composer James Horner

22 June 2015; near Ojai, California: Composer James Horner, who created music for over 150 movies, including "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," "48 Hrs.," and "Aliens," and who won two Oscars for his work in "Titanic," was killed in the crash of his Short Tucano in southern California. Horner was the only person on the aircraft.

About the aircraft
Horner was flying a Short S312 Tucano T, which is a two-seat aircraft used primarily as a military trainer, and is a variant of the Embraer EMB 312 Tucano trainer aircraft. The Short Tucano was in production from 1986-1995, and the accident aircraft was manufactured in 1989.

This aircraft model is currently used by the armed forces of the United Kingdom, Kenya, and Kuwait. The aircraft flown by Horner, which had the registration number N206PZ, had its FAA certificate granted in August 2013, and was valid until August 2016.
